Burial Association Poker Run
On July 25, 2020, the Burial Association sponsored its third annual Poker Run with partners Big Barn Harley Davidson and Smokey D’s BBQ Restaurant. The event was held at the Big Barn.
This year’s event was combined with Big Barns 2nd Annual Harley & Hot Rod Summer Celebration. This was the first time we have done this and it was a great success. We hope to continue the combined events in the future. Over 60 cars and 20 bikes were on display for the show and another 50 + motorcycles came to the event with many riding in the Poker Run.
It was a very hot day but the attendees stayed around to enjoy music, raffle prizes, kids games, ice cream, food and drinks, and admire the cars and motorcycles. The event raised funds for the Burial Association.
The highlight of the day was when a young man Cedar Rapids came up to us to make a donation. Danny Bena asked his parents to bring him to Des Moines for this event. He prepared an envelope and drew a smiley face on it and wrote “Thank you for what you do.” Inside the envelope was $40 that Danny had taken from his savings, money he had earned himself. This was a very touching moment for all of us.
The Burial extends a big Thank You for our partners and sponsors in this event; Big Barn Harley Davidson; Smokey D’s BBQ; Doll Distributing-Budweiser and Atlantic Bottling-Coca-Cola. Please remember these businesses and use their services whenever you can.
And finally, thank you to the many citizens that attended the event and helped support our efforts.
