Our Mission
To insure a secure working environment as well as maintaining and enhancing the economic welfare of the organized members of the Des Moines Police Department. To protect our members against any situations deemed contractually unacceptable. Also, to constantly strive to improve membership unity.
We are excited to have been given the opportunity to inform you of our mission. The Internet affords us the luxury of telling you the facts without the media's perception and interpretation.

The Des Moines Police Bargaining Unit Association recognizes the need of private employers who wish to engage the professional services of Des Moines Police Bargaining Unit members. The membership of this association, in partnership with private business, endeavors to meet the need for quality professional off-duty police services. These services are provided as individually agreed by employers and members of this association.
Over the last four years, members of The Des Moines Police Bargaining Unit Association have held the “per hour rate” fixed, allowing for employers the opportunity to budget for their professional off-duty police needs even though business costs continue to escalate. Unfortunately, our membership also realizes those same cost of living increases and equipment needs. As a result, please note the following per hour rate increase:
Effective 01 February 2010, the recommended hourly rate for Off-Duty Police employment will be charged at $40.00 per hour, with a three (3) hour minimum.
Christmas Day, New Years Eve Day, New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving Day, are considered major holidays and are to be paid at the premium rate of two times (2x) the normal rate.
Cancellation of an Off-Duty Officer(s) prior to a scheduled date/time of service must be made no later than eight (8) hours prior to the scheduled date/time of service. Cancellation of service less than eight (8) hours prior to date/time of service is subject to a cancellation fee of fifty ($50) dollars per officer.
This association recognizes that some private businesses may not immediately be able to accommodate this increase and are asked to work mutually with DMPBUA members to incrementally adjust the hourly rate where needed.
